Title: Review SH69
Post by: leon garrity on May 02, 2011, 10:37:20 AM
Hello,

Advice needed with new boxes, currently im using SH69 over the TH115 in a stacking situation crossed over at 85hz Butterworth and also tried the NTM 36 from my BSS omnidrive  .Would it couple with the sub making it not as clear by and would it be better flown so its away from the sub.

Also ive tried it against the SM60 and it doesnt seem as bright IMO.

Using the Danley SH69 for over a month now and it is quite a beast. It is very different from the SM60 im also using,it has a lot more mid range and does give true bass which when pushed from the Lab 3400 amplifier does give a truly full range box. However it doesnt sparkle as much as the SM60 on the top end which was a shock when i did a side by side test. What you do get is a box where the vocal never gets lost. When i tested the Boxes the Sh69 was directly on top of the TH115 crossed over at 85hz and the SM60 was pole mounted at around 6 and half feet. The Sh69 can give way more midrange and lowend than the SM60 but can not give the topend the SM60 gives,it is far more sparkly. What the SH69 does give is the severest pattern control ive ever heard its scary that within a couple of inches it drops off.Now pattern control is a great thing for boundary control but if you have people out of the line of sight so to speak then they dont get an audible treat. One thing though is this because Danley make speakers to sound very studio clean,in the PA world it can seem too clinical and not exciting also because they are designed to sound beautiful. What some people perceptions of sound is they like it a little dirty to sound exciting. When you make a box that sounds too good it can remove the musical energy. The Boxes do go loud.I know that isnt the whole object of performance but to have a box that is very pure and can go loud is a bonus.
