Here some pictures of LAbHorns sold by ATELIER33 (French Company) seen on the SIEL in Paris and the Frankfurt Messe (ask Tako  )

http://at33.free.fr seems to be their website

It would be nice to find out if these guys are in fact selling the labs. I'm sure at least Tom Danley would interested.

"Serious box of sub of great volume to very high output and load of the type guides wave low frequency.  Equipped with 2 loudspeakers 30 cm of very strong power and very broad excursion, this gigantic guide of wave is optimized for an optimum coupling by group of 3 units or more.  Its frequency response extends then to 27 Hz, with an attenuation of the face d?onde back superior with 12 dB.  Its impressive output combined with a very strong behavior in power makes it possible to reduce considerably the rate of distortion usually obtained with more conventional loads.  In spite of its obstruction significant, the assessment volume - level SPL remains favorable because approximately 3 boxes are needed doubles 46 traditional to equalize the noise level produced by only one sub Maestro"

here is their description

All I can say is wow. If they manage to sell any with that description, more power to them.

Of course I'd hate to see some Frenchman laughing at my attempts to describe technical aspects in his language.

Of course I'm smart enough not to try as well....

If I may....

Description:
Large scale, high output, bass frequency, wave-guide (horn) loaded Sub-Woofer cabinet.
Equipped with 2 12" high power-handling, high excursion drivers, this giant wave-guide (horn) is optimized for coupling in groups of 3 or more. Frequency response drops down to 27hz, with a rear attenuation better than 12 dB.
It's impressive response and high power handling permits to reduce considerably the distortion rate normally obtained in boxes using more conventional loading.
The most important feature is it's output - it compares favorably to around 3 double "46 classiques" which it would take to equal the sound level of only 1 "Maestro" sub-woofer.

I am an english Canadian, that speaks french on a daily basis.
That said, I am not familiar with some of these words coming from France, but I think my translation flows a bit better than the google version.

How do the measurements compare to the LAB sub ??
1145 x 1145 x 572 ??
90 Kg ?
Could they have "borrowed" the driver module and molded another horn around it ?
Only one of the builders could tell for sure....
I haven't made sawdust myself, and I have neither seen a built unit, or seriously studied the plans.

Chris.

In English units, their measurments come out to 45" X 45" x 22 1/2"

My guess is that somebody in France realized that this design blows away anything that their company has or could ever design on their own and has simply decided to copy it and sell it. Sort of like the French Behringer. Why spend R+D money when you can simply steal other peoples designs and ideas?  (And people wonder why we have "issues" with the French!)

I figured it would only be a matter of time before either a small US company, or a large overseas company would market a LAB as their own.  Madisound here in the USA tried to market a horribly inadiquate copy of a LAB (not even close to spec but they refered to it as a real LAB), but has since stopped refering to those crappy subs as LABs.

I guess its time to call the lawyers

FYI, it was not Madisound of Madison Wisconsin, but Madison(Steele Sound) out in Colorado.
