Title: PM5D backup
Post by: Helge A Bentsen on February 22, 2018, 09:39:46 AM
I need to backup a program from a PM5D to Studio Manager, but I can't get studio manager to synchronize.

I've set USB and TX/RX on ch 1 under midi setup on the desk and in studio manager, but I get a timeout error when I try to sync.

Is there a magic "button" somewhere or a hidden setting I need to locate?

It's been a while, but isn't there also a USB-MIDI driver from Yamaha?

Yes, and IIRC the USB Midi driver needs to be set up before connecting to the console. You may need to set the driver, exit it, reopen it and connect. Long time for me too.

Yes, the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver is a royal PITA to use. But you have to get it set up correctly first, then connect to the console via Studio Manager.

I just looked on the Yamaha site and I don't see the USB-MIDI driver listed, so I'm not actually sure where to fine it any more. Maybe Leland will see this and can point you in the right direction.

Alternatively, you can save the console file to the flash card and then load it on your computer manually.

Thanks,

I already got the MIDI driver, plugged in the console as specified, ran the driver installation and it said ok.
Did this before I tried Studio Manager the first time.

Is there any settings in the driver itself?

I remember having problems with anti virus software blocking communication. On a Dell XPS Laptop, Dell had installed processes that didn't show up in program menu.

You do need to open the driver and select the connected devices I think.

Are the usb-midi driver, studio manager, and console plugin all listed as compatible with your operating system?  Is the console plugin compatible with the console firmware version?

I’m on Win10 64-bit, all the software was freshly downloaded and installed today.
The console is running firmware 2.26

You're thinking of the LAN driver (Yamaha calls it the DME Network driver). The USB driver doesn't have any settings that need to be changed.

Helge, are you seeing the PM5D in Studio Manager File/Setup/MIDI Settings and also in the PM5D Editor's File/System Setup Screen?

On my midi driver there is a pull down menu for device selection.

Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver?
I don't have a Yamaha console to plug my computer into for the driver to activate, but I don't ever recall going into device manager to set anything on that driver.

Latest version of the Yamaha USB Midi driver. I too have no console to test it with. I'm on MacOS 10.13.3.

Ah, I'm on Windows. Perhaps the Mac version has settings. In Windows the driver doesn't really exist as a controllable item until you plug in the console.

I think Mac is on to the solution.
It's been quite a while, but I seem to recall having to tell the USB-Midi driver which console you were trying to communicate with in a drop down menu.

Thanks,

I found the Yamaha USB MIDI control panel and if I press the All Note On-button, the console loads snapshot 129, so it's communicating with the driver.

But I still can't get Studio Manager to sync.

Just a stupid question... have you selected the right port in studio manager under file/system setup?

Selected port 1 on both Rx and Tx. AFAIK they should be the same as on the console.
