Title: AVID S3LX type mixers that hosts plugins?
Post by: Brad Jekko on September 20, 2018, 09:45:04 PM
I don't want to go on the road without my plugins. The Midas M32, Presonus StudioLive stock tools are all too clean for what I need to achieve, but that is where I am at in terms of the kinds of desk I can afford.  Are there any products on the horizon or something I have missed? The AVID S3LX is right there doing what it needs to do, are there any competing products at a lower price point yet?

A&H released a waves card for the SQ series today.

Which plugins are you using?

Waves have cards for both Yamaha and Digico and the aforementioned A&H consoles to use their plugins with a SoundGrid server.

Other than the S3XL, there's not rally any other consoles that host internal plugins, since those plugins runs on the HDX card in the S3LX console, and it's HDX format plugins only.

Waves offers a SoundGrid card for the X/M-32. You can also run the plugins in Native mode and use the included USB card to get audio in and out, although your latency will be higher (and if you're running a lot of plugins this is probably not a good idea).

As far as I know, onboard plugin hosting is only done by Avid; everyone else (even DiGiCo, etc.) relies on outboard hardware to handle them.

The M32 does have a waves card available. You still need a soundgrid server though, but you do with almost all the mixers anyway.
