Title: I need an intercom solution/ recommendation..
Post by: Andrew Morton on July 14, 2019, 03:55:42 AM
I'm working an event that in years past has used an analog RTS system with 2 PS20 and a SAP612 to cover 24 belt packs/ speaker user stations with Freespeak 2. The Show Caller has in the past used a Studio Technologies model 240 to accept the Production line and used the other 3 in's/ out's to feed back and forth an IFB feed, IEM feed, and PA announce feed separately. This year he's requesting 4 channels of intercom, and the 3 prior year feeds (IFB- send and receive, IEM- send and receive, and PA Announce- send).

We are trying to make a full helixnet system work with the given budget but I'm trying to think of other options in case a full helixnet system isn't approved. The best I could come up with is at the show caller position is to recommend a small helixnet setup just for the caller, it would be a main station and 2 remotes (expanded). Backstage I'd have a LQ-R four wire version near the Freespeak base station to utilize the 4 wire ports for the necessary intercom lines into the helixnet system. and I'd 2 wire from the sap into the Freespeak 2. I would run copper from the show caller position coming out of the various SA and PGM in's to the necessary parts of the audio system.

Anyone have a better/ different solution to my problem that would be cost effective? The rest of the intercom positions are 1-2 channels only, the show caller position is the only wrinkle in the set up this year.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks Guys!

Andrew

cheapest upgrade - get your show caller a RTS MCE325 station and run it in 4ch mode...run it's hot mic out into your Model 240-carry on.

if you want a better solution that covers PL and IFB, either get a small intercom matrix involved (RTS Zeus) so your show caller can have a real keypanel (KP12 or similar), this can be easily interfaced to your current analog PL setup.

Going Dante is another option, give the show caller something like the GlenSound Beatrice R8 and ST Model 370 for beltpacks.
