Title: Basic Push Button Lighting Controler?
Post by: Adam Whetham on September 22, 2006, 01:16:46 AM
This may be a little off topic. But right now I have a (Believe it or not) a little wedding chappel that is putting some lights in.

Conventional Lighting for durring the cerimony. Then the audience area switches over to the dance floor/reception area afterwards.

So he has Par Can's and Spin and Pukes up there with a few "Inteligent Lights" aka cheap DJ Scanners. Everything is running sound active internal.

What I can't belive isn't out there... and maybe I don't know of a company that makes the controler... is just a plain old Push button ON/OFF controller that uses DMX. something stupid like the old american DJ SC-8? systems, except with a bunch of buttons.

I need to find something small. with NO faders, that just turns 16 DMX channels that are assigned to being Relay packs (No dimming)...

so... little control box... 1U or 2U with 16 on off buttons that controls DMX??

I'm also trying to incorporate their Par can's into their own chase sequence but thats another story...

Doing it this way cause its an old couple that just wants to push a button and have stuff go....

That is a nice panel and all... But I'm still trying to figure out why no one makes a DMX version of the classic SC8 system..

I have customers that right now they want to buy DMX switch packs and some DMX capable Lights that will run in stand alone. But they don't want to take the plunge into programing the system yet. They'd rather buy now and be able to upgrade very easily in the near future. Instead of buying analog, dealing with Serial Cables and then later on when they want to make the jump have to re-buy switch packs and re-cable their setup...

Am I the only one that finds this weird? There is no push button DMX 19" 1/2RU controler? Yet their are countless analog ones still....

Martin 2510, if you were prepared to program it. However it is limited in its lack of ability to fade.

So buy an analog one, and then get an analog to DMX convertor (I know they're out there)

The reason that you can't find a DMX one is that the very principle of DMX in most cases is to control moving lights, in which case you don't want just on/off. At least that would be my assumption.

What dimmer racks do you have? NSI DDS racks still have a db9 connector for analog control, I thought others did too.

Probably to late on this one, but I have done this before with NSI (leviton) Equipment.

Depending on your needs you can use a NSI 408CP controller (or controllers) with a IF501 to convert between the Lumanet network and dmx.

The other option, the one you would probably be more interested in is there TLC 16

this is basically a (3u?) Rack mount box that has 16 bump and latch buttons that can controll dmx. It can also do some scenes and such if you like.

Lightronics also makes some great options with button-panels up to 16 chanels, fader panels to 12 chanels, IR REMOTE CONTROL panels!!, and even some simple contact-switch options.

Edit:

One other quick look showed me you could probably make a Chauvet ILS do this for you.

and of course you have the ADJ DMX FootPedal controller
