Title: Loop multiple videos, one at a time
Post by: Trevor Ludwig on November 05, 2010, 12:06:17 PM
Is there a media player out there that I can set up to queue about 12 four second videos in, and have them loop individually, until it is skipped to the next.

I am working a weekly cardiology meeting and once a month they play one small clip continuously while they talk about it, and then skip quickly to the next clip without minimizing a window and opening a new file.  The entire thing is broadcast to multiple venues in other states, so downtime should be kept to a minimum.

I have been trying with VLC but when the video begins to repeat there is a second or two of lag before the video picks up again, and since these are only 4 second video clips, it wouldn't work to lose the first two seconds.  At first I thought this might be a problem with the laptop, but it's a core2duo 2.6GHz with 4GB of ram...which should play a simple SD quality video

Also, this isn't something that I can do in advance, or I would just create one video from each clip that was 5 minutes long or whatever.

Anyone have any suggestions, aside from a new computer, because this is kind of all I've got.

Thanks,
tl

There are a few products for video playback that do exactly what you need. Unfortunately they are both OSX only.

Qlab

ProVideoPlayer:

The only product that i know for windows is Mediashout, which is intended for Houses of Worship, but will do what you need.

The renewed vision link will also send you to pro presenter which is now available for pc. If I didn't have a Mac I would still take pro presenter over media shout.

Pro Presenter is a fantastic tool for video playback; highly recommended.  Download the demo, and make sure it will do what you want it to do (on the computer you want to do it on).  Demo is fully functional; just watermarked.

I have used qlab and I think it will do what you want, if you buy the video option.

I think in your case I would try mplayer first. I have used the Linux version for this kind of thing. There is a windows version with a command line interface too.

I used a script that waited for a key press to play the next video.  In your case I would set up a few loops, one for each video that check for a key press every loop.  Once the key press happens it moves on to the next screen.  Once you get the script working just save each file to the names used in the script each meeting.

I think I got it.  I had to use VLC, but with the computer it managed to figure itself out after the first loop.

GE has its own proprietary program and player for playing videos of echos though.  And it couldn't be installed on the laptop, and had to load off the cd, and then load 30 separate video clips before it played one of them.  That was a huge setback (that they didn't tell me about until it was time to do it)  But it all worked out.

Thanks for the help guys!

p.s. Tom, where are you located?  I grew up in central Wisconsin.  How's the AV industry around there?

Wittenberg is where I live.  Wausau is my main service area.
Things are starting to pick up for me.
