I have an event coming up next weekend. I was just asked via email if I could also help them with the seminars.
They have several different speakers coming in all bringing various laptops. Some PC, some apple.
They want me to be able to make them all work.
Understand I have no idea what brand/type of laptops or brand/type of projectors.
The projectors are coming from several different churches and won't be here until the morning of the event.
If you were going to put together an assortment of adapter cables to CYA what would you bring?

Are the operators coming to setup the projectors they are donating?
Have the presenters send the presentation to you in advance. Have one playback device per projector/room
If you can't your going to have to play McGyver IT guy and just cross your fingers, until I walk in with my Lenovo with a mini HDMI.
Sounds like being setup to fail to me and have a miserable afternoon.

My biggest problem is I will be out on the road leaving Tuesday AM and returning Friday Night. I get to walk into a festival where the sound/lighting is absolutely no problem.
This "little" av gig was just sprung on me via email today...
I have all the usual vga cables, apple to HDMI, the ones I use. I'm just trying to make my day a little less McGuyverish.
I love last minute "Oh By The Way" things...

I think there is a saying that no matter how many adapters you have, you will never have the right one.

It is also bad form to connect the source directly to the projector. A small switcher allows you to make sure no inadvertent content or blue screen makes it to the program screen.

Apple's mini Display Port, HDMI, and VGA are the big three, with maybe a full-size Display Port for the odd laptop.

It's harder to say without knowing what type of signal you need to go in to. If it's HDMI then I'd have HDMI, mini-dp to hdmi, dp to hdmi, mini-hdmi to hdmi, USB-c to hdmi, and some way to scale VGA to hdmi.
Really what you want is what's already been said, a decent 2 bus switched like an analog way pulse or a prespro.
You'll still probably come up short on an adapter. Someone will show up with an old dvi output laptop.

As long as the projector has both VGA and HDMI inputs, all you need is a VGA cable, an HDMI cable, and one of these:

As mentioned above, a switcher would be preferable.

Porn at a church gig is a no no, especially if it is the presenter's machine.

In this day of e-mail, texts, voicemail and cell phones not being able to get information ahead of time is really inexcusable. I would insist that you get an e-mail from everyone that is bringing a device (don't worry-you won't get all of them!) listing all video outputs and/or inputs-at least then you might get 70-80% of the seminars covered for sure.

Don't forget USB-C now for MacBooks.
That said I'm just about at the point where I feel like everyone can chromecast or airplay their video...
Also - we have been putting barco click shares into our meeting rooms. We have had great success.

I'd like to thank everyone for their responses. Everything went off with only one hiccup.
One person brought a laptop and their presentation would not run on it. Fortunately they brought the presentation a stick. I loaded it on my laptop and it ran fine.
I did email everyone and informed them of the situation. Next year the people putting on the event have agreed to rent projectors from us and solve the problem. At least then we will know exactly what we have to work with.

Yes, I've seen this happen with distressing regularity. On many corpy events we now have a PP specialist whose job it is to reformat presentations to fit the projection aspect ratio (even though presenters were notified 90 days in advance), fix font issues, and remove embedded videos that rely on streaming and replace them with downloaded versions.
Next will be the fun of copy-protected embedded video that won't play because the embedded source doesn't see the HDCP token passing...

Or the "embedded video" is actually just a YouTube link. That has been [re]moved....
