Title: Interesting use of a column speaker...

I'm not sure that's what JBL had in mind when they designed these speakers.  With only the tiny little picture to go by, it looks like they have it about 25' in the air...with a selectable 15 or 30 degree vertical pattern I can't imagine they have very much coverage on the top half of the bleachers.

Thoughts?

I always prefer to install my loudspeakers BEHIND the listeners...NOT.

Right.  Or in front of, but never above and pointing away...

Stadium sound often comes from behind the listeners due to resistance to any structures between the fans and the field.

It is hard to tell from the photo, but with the asymmetrical vertical coverage that placement doesn't look out of line to me.

Agreed.

If there is a pole (especially with a speaker on it) between the fan and the "big play" they will get upset.  So until we have invisible speakers mounted on invisible poles and invisible wire-we are going to to use other locations.

It really doesn't matter about localization-since there is no stage or other thing to localize to.

Most people would be happy just to understand the announcements-since most systems can't even do that.

The scoreboard would be the closest thing to something to localize to.

There are advantages and disadvantages to distributed and end zone systems.  A lot of "it depends".

To most people the biggest thing is intelligibility not localization.
