Title: Isle of Wight
Post by: Stu McDoniel on May 17, 2012, 07:30:22 PM
600,000 people and no one gave a whoot about the sound system/ WEM.   The Who provided the system for the fest.  Jimmy Hendrix played at 2am in the morning.   There is a couple DVD's out on the fest from the Who and Jimmy.   I belive in this day and age it would be called not enough rig for the gig.  :)
This fest was right after Woodstock.   Lots of cool pics here.  Enjoy

I love how they flew the snake-and what looks like all sorts of "stuff" (shoes etc) got thrown on it.

Here's aittle self-penned history of Charlie Watkins,

There's some more here about early festivals on the Isle of Wight (where I live) and WEM in general: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec04/articles/iow.htm

(about 1/3 way down the page - the rest of the article is about cureent systems).

Steve.
