I spent entirely too much time in '05 working on that place.  It was an interesting room, for sure.

I like what you've you done with the angle (Truss?).

It makes the small number of cans very interesting.

What is being used to comprise the angled pieces?

Looks good, although generally I'd lose the PARs and go with Source Four pars.  Less obtrusive and doesn't look cheap.

Giant PAR64's reminds me too much of the days when I got payed peanuts to light local bands.

Gimme a S4P over a P64 any day, and we've got dozens of them. But when the client specifically asks for "rock star lights out front," a silver P64 is the only way to go!

That's just about all the gear owned by the school's student union for both lighting and sound..  There's a pair of Martin 918s lurking on the stage, and some delay stacks with FOH behind the photographer.  You use what you've got.

Interesting effect- is that some sort of cloth?
Title: Re: Light Rig Porn
Post by: Tony "T" Tissot on January 10, 2008, 01:23:57 PM
Spandex is one cloth that works very well.

You can also use it to build freestanding set pieces (Think cones and cylinders).

Takes light extremely well. Fills large areas inexpensively (OK - not really cheap w/ rated fireproofing - but cheaper than  hard pieces), and at low weight.

Following is courtesy of Rose Brand.

Yeah, Tony got it right. It's spandex. You can see the 20x15 there in the truss, as well as another 20x15 and a 50x15 in the background.

The LED pars could wash, chase, swirl, strobe, etc. around the fabric. It was fun to write cues for.

The pipe has a nice natural bend to it. There's not that much weight on it. It's seen more abuse during it's life then the once a month we used to use it.

Terry,

I have some questions regarding your truss and lifts:

What kind of lifts are you using (brand and model)?

Is that 12" box truss?

How far does the truss span across the back of the stage?

Sorry for all the questions but I am thinking about adding 24' to 30' of truss with lifts but feel a bit limited in choices.

DMX Operator Pro, at the moment. I've got a Show Designer 2 being repaired at Elation (that I picked up really cheap).

The Op Pro has been very good. I run lights from behind the drums too, and I've dumped beer, Jager, and anything else that I may be drinking right in to the top of it. It has continued to work flawlessly for about 4 years now. Unfortunately, they are a little too limited for what I want to do, so that's the reason I've acquired the SD2 (although I haven't used it yet).

Its Global Truss 12" box. I've got 3 sticks of 10' and 1 stick of 6.5'. I use different lengths depending on where we play. A couple of the picks above are on a corner stage - I've got a (homemade) corner truss setup that I use at that particular venue.

I can't remember the stand brand. - I got them from Centerstage Lighting - I think they are rated for about 150 lbs each, and I'm quite embarrassed to say that I'm probably over that limit at times. Good, heavy weight stands are hard to afford - but that's what I need to do.

I wish I could find an in-between stand.  Of course, I'd really like to have a couple of genie's, but I can't afford them at this point of my (small) sound co.

From a few weeks a go. My local guy hooked me up with a ton of his inventory for very cheap. I think he has just gotten a large order in and wanted to seem em all used at once.

Front truss is 4 Elation Design Wash 250s, 2 Coemar Wash 300 and 6 Src4 Pars.
2 flown trusses mid and rear have 8 Elation Design Spot 250s and 3 Elation ColorBrick 12s a truss.
Ground stacked in back are 4 Optima Matrix 575 spots.
Radiance Hazer (very windy outside under a tent so that was a PITA though, but when the wind went the right direction that thing worked wonders!)
Programmed and run on LightJockey with a touchscreen monitor.

I wish I had gotten shots from FOH, there were a few special moments when the haze blew through the right way.

Here's some video from our latest tour light show:

Our LD did a pretty good job, at least I think. Smile

Audio is straight off the board.

Straight off the board and into youtube's broadcast-style squish box that is pumping really badly, and ducks the whole track when the guitars kick in.

Yowza!

Yep. We had 6 Mac 250's for this tour. 1 on the floor on each side, 1 on the guitar cabs on each side and 2 on the drum riser. 2 Atomic 3k's per side. Pretty kickin' little light show.

Nice.. im about to sell all my conventional lights and only go with moving heads.. They suck cost wise though, but arent so power hungry as my par64's

I would like to have some atomic 3k's though

I absolutely agree!! I have the same (Source Four) type lights and when having only those on the truss - something was absolutely "missing". Now I put a row of regular 64's on the 'audience side' of the truss with the Flexipars (MBT's name) on the back side. Yes, maybe a bit 'old-school' but it does look better!! Smile
