Title: 01V96 Scene Automation beyond 99 events

It didn't seem the AV forum was any more or less appropriate than The Lounge for this question, so here it is: I have a local low budget theater production that I'm helping out with which is going to require mute automation since there will be ~ 20 inputs with a lot of fast scene changes. The producers are willing to spring for something like the 01V96 to handle the job as long as it can support the automation requirements. The 01V96 has memory for up to 99 scenes, but it's likely this production will need in the neighborhood of 200. I'm assuming this can be achieved with MIDI. Can someone recommend a program or procedure that will handle more than 99 scenes? I didn't seem the manager software that comes with the mixer has extra facilities beyond the mixer itself. Or maybe it's possible to store up 99 scenes and then load a new set from the manager software during intermission? Any input appreciated.

I have used 01V96s and Studio Manager pretty extensively in theatre applications and, to the best of my knowledge, SM does not offer additional capabilities beyond the mixer's built in ones. That said, you can certainly save the separate SM files and load a new one during intermission if you don't mind doing it like that.

That should work perfectly actually. I haven't used SM before and didn't know if that was workable. I did some RTFM'ing and the instructions on the scene stuff are a bit light. Thanks to you and Clay (for the link).

Thanks Mac. Seem my post triggered some other interest. That Palladium looks pretty cool. It might be overkill for this production, but then again it's not very expensive. I'll check out the trial.

SFX from Stage Research http://www.stageresearch.com/products/SFX6/SFX6.aspxis an audio playback app that can also send commands via midi.  It can do mutes directly and recall scenes as well.  Might be too spendy along with the 01v, though.

I am currently teching a run of Kiss Me Kate, and am using a combo of Scenes and Channel on/Off commands on an M7CL.   We have over a hundred cues, but are only using 48 scenes for the show.   I have a scene for any major changes (several Mics on and off at the same time) as well as major songs and then use channel on/offs for when single characters or small groups are entering and exiting.  A brief check of the 01v96 manual lists a similar feature on the 01v, but I haven't tried it specifically on your board.

If you have access to a Mac, Qlab offers rental licenses so you can avoid having to pay full cost for the program.  It will also handle all your SFX, Video cues (if you have any), can send timecode via midi, and several other things as well.  Rental licenses are $3 a day for any single feature (Midi, pro audio, Pro Video) or $7 a day for the whole thing.  Check it out at http://figure53.com.

+1 I have had very positive experience with Qlab for SFX playback, and really like their rental model.

 +1 on Qlab.... will be able to handle your mutes and any level changes you need by shooting out midi commands as the different cues are fired off.
They have some great tutorials on their site for seeing what it can do, and the $3/day rental license is such a cool idea for those who don't want to drop all the bread at once on the full product.
