Title: Ooops. Somebody should have noticed
Post by: Jamin Lynch on July 21, 2017, 12:10:12 PM
That moment when you notice the crane operator didn't get the truss level.

They rented a few lighting fixtures from me. I came back later that night to check out the show. When I walked out to FOH I realized it wasn't level.

Oh well, with the amount of beer drinking going on it probably looked fine to the crowd.

Maybe it is level, just not square?

That's possible. All the truss is on a bridge crane.

Does anyone make a sensor and app for leveling?  Perhaps some Bluetooth gizmo that hooks to the truss or whatever and can be observed with your handheld thingie dujour.  Should be easy and cheap.

They do have wireless crane controllers there.

I don't think the guy was standing directly in the center when raised. They probably looked level from where he was standing.

Look at the compass app on your Iphone under utilities/compass. You'll be surprised.

It's called a laser distance measure.  Measure to a bottom chord once it's at trim then adjust as needed.  Then you'll always be level to the deck.  It's nice because you use a tool that you should already have.  :)

100foot tape measures looped over each end of the truss have worked for years. Or use your disto.
