I have a request to get live radio (walkie) conversation over the sound system for a que in a show, not a problem with a DI box, the thing is when it receives it starts with a loud thump!
Any thoughts on how to eliminate this? disabling the PL code or something?
thanks

Noise gate with slow attack?

High pass the channel and try a fast attack and release, hard limiter setting in the channel compressor.
Not sure about the gate. If it doesn't open with the "thump" it seems unlikely to open with the voice.
-
Or, if you can. Do it manually? Read off the meters when the "thump" is over, then pull up the fader?
-
Set the threshold low enough to open with the voice but let the slow attack catch the pop. Should work fine.

How are you connecting to the Radio?

Clever - the pop opens the gate, but the gate doesn't open fast enough for the pop to actually be heard.

Using a HT1250 radio, earphone out to DI box,
I will try all of the suggestions

Got me thinking...might try that out for another application I have.

Could not get this to work, My desk (Studer) only goes to 5ms attack time,
I will try to adjust the radio setting or will try to get them to prerecord the section

Measure output to see if it has any DC when turned on.
See if radios using side PTT are different. Hand mics might switch DC too.
Block with Non Polarized cap if switched at RX.

That seems really short. There are outboard compressors, as well. My Presonus ACP 22 goes to 100ms, I'm sure others have even longer attack times.

Problem solved, I build a adapter with a 10uf capacitor and a 100k resistor,
Thanks
