Title: Wireless DMX
Post by: Joe Seliski on February 09, 2011, 12:33:54 PM
I realize this may be an old topic - but old posts seemed rather scattered on the topic.  Has anyone actually done any comparative testing on these units??

Chauvet D-Fi Plus    $179
Elation Professional EWDMXT - $600
Sirs-e Wireless DMX PRO 2.4Ghz  $349 / pr.

also - has anyone experienced "delays" in sending dmx cues over wireless?

thanks

I haven't tested wireless DMX in the past but am waiting to test the new Blizzard Lighting's wiCICLE™. Should have a couple in house soon and at $149.99 they are not only the smallest unit I have seen but also the most affordable.

I will post a review once I get them in.

There are a couple of (maybe just one) small differences between the Elation unit and the WDMX one.  I can't remember exactly what, but it wasn't worth the price increase in my opinion.  A couple of guys I know have the Elation and it's been rock solid for them.  When I finally get around to getting wireless DMX that's what I'm planning on buying.

I would advise NOT getting the Chauvet boxes. Almost everytime I encounter them, we get interference, which causes the lights to all flicker at the same time, and sometimes makes the moving heads jitter. We've tried changing frequencies and have gone through multiple boxes.
Only if it is totally impossible to run a wire, I will use a wireless box. I guess you get what you pay for.

I have had nothing but good results with the Elation wdmx. Can do both line of sight and also goes through walls and ceilings. It is always a little unnerving to run fixtures you can't see, but running architectuals on top of a stage set gets to be a fair amount of control cables and splitters, and wdmx makes the ordeal a lot easier.

I am interested in Blizzards Wicicles, if anyone has experience with those I'd love to hear about them.
