Hi guys,

i tried the search function to point me in the right direction but no dice.
One of IQ12's has a busted woofer, tried calling our favorite people but so far no response. Do any of you know what is the replacement woofer for this speaker by chance?

any help would be appreciated, thanks all!!

This is for my home stereo and I want a cable that lays on the floor and tucks into corners well. I'll be using NL4s but still there is the interior decorator factor to be accommodated.

As an alternative, one *could* use the plastic, snap to close raceway (painted to your interior decorator's choice, or just plain white or putty) and run individual leads of 14GA (automotive) wire, still terminating in NL4s.

Just did two performances of an orchestra and soloist yesterday

they had one of the less experienced techs Saturday and he accidentally ruined the original scene trying add additional mics inputs
by the time I got there

finally got that sorted out as I had never dealt with a GLD console
And the two people I called said they would have to be in front of it

Figured out how to get it done
 miced up everything

set preamps and low high pass
for everything flattened and adjusted to taste at practice on Sunday morning

only added to the room what needed to be added to the room
Time delayed the choir since they were in the back and appropriately time delayed the other instruments

It was also an online mix

Sound in the room was great
The sound online was great
Good experience👍

I was the house A1 on an orchestra holiday show last year and the gear was great, the vendor crew on their game, and the supplied FOH mixerperson was experienced with this orchestra.  Lots of mics, very few monitor loudspeakers.

That meant we had a bit of time for some philosophical discussion about how an orchestra should sound in non-traditional spaces and how we might re-create some of the sonic signature of orchestral performance in the PA.

The word of the night was "time".  The head carpenter (also an audio person, usually) was in the balcony listening to the rehearsal and later described the magnitude of some of the things we experimented with.  Distance (time) was perceived differently in his listening position than we heard it on the floor, mid house.

What has this to do with the price of reindeer feed at the North Pole?

Jim's Rule #1:  Don't piss off the big donors.

We listened at the "reserved seats" to make sure we didn't deliver a perceivable negative experience for those guests.  Most of those seats were close enough that the acoustic output of the orchestra was the primary signal.

Over all we delivered a less "in your face" perception of the orchestra while preserving tonality and coverage, at an appropriate SPL.

So no, it's not rocket surgery but it IS about time...

direction is so important.

Indeed! It is a collaboration.

Judicious use of LPF's is important too.

I'd actually settled on Yamaha DZR 12's back in June but after waiting 3 months for the Canadian distributor to fill the order then being told speakers wouldn't arrive until the new year, I had to go looking for something else. Here's a very condensed pro/con list of powered speakers that I'd compiled to come to my decision.

I was in the same boat waiting on a set of 315s, I told the dealer I would think about it and a week and a half later they magically showed up.

No sure what is going on with Yamaha, but stuff does seem to be trickling off the boat.

What about micing the conductor's feet? I was watching a PBS broadcast of an "All Star" orchestra and there was a mic on the floor on a short stand pointing at the conductors feet not at the orchestra. He was on a small risor. I can't figure out what that was for. In one of the Pines of Rome movements, there were 5 or 6 brass players in a semi-circle behind him. But that doesn't seem to be the best mic position for that.
Any ideas?
I've put mic(s) below the conductor's music desk but never aimed them at the conductor's feet.  Center channel for audience pick up, maybe?

This one hits home, literally: Myles Goodwin of April Wine.

https://www.cp24.com/entertainment-news/renowned-canadian-musician-and-former-april-wine-singer-myles-goodwyn-dead-at-75-1.6671431

April Wine was a legend in Nova Scotia when I was growing up, even if they had long since relocated to Montreal.  The band headlined the first rock show I ever saw, at the Halifax Forum in 1976.

GTD

That one does hit home. April Wine played here quite a bit over the years so I got to work with him all those times. Very popular band in our area. Some of our management were huge fans of his so he always got the full star treatment when he was here.
RIP Myles
