Title: HD onstage lockdown camera
Post by: brian maddox on February 08, 2014, 01:01:14 AM
We're upgrading to HD in our auditorium and I'm looking for some cheap cameras to use for onstage 'drum cam' shots and the like.  Criteria are:

Need to be 720p or 1080i. I can't use 1080p.
Need to be cheap.  I'm looking to keep these around 300 a piece.
Need HD-SDI out.  If HDMI then factor in 100 bucks or so for a converter.

Front runners are:

GoPro Hero3.  Like the mounting options and ruggedness.  Don't like the fixed lens.
Samsung HMX-f90. Easy to use.  I'm liking this option.  Not quite as stealthy though.

Also curious about HD-SDI security camera options but just don't know enough about them.

So, any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We have an hd-sdi security cam FOH. It is made by everfocus and feeds or lobby TVs and backstage dressing room TVs. It's great but is easily over saturated by intense blue LEDs.  Not a deal breaker but something to be aware of. With lens it was closer to $450.
