Yuck.

Real beauty, the kind from Twilight Zone episode "Eye of the Beholder".

It is human nature to resist change... doesn't suck... and will grow on you like a fungus.

The new F-150s have 120VAC and WWW.

There's a construction video around, too, if you've got time to kill.

All things considered, I think I would prefer Travis McGee's Miss Agnes*.

*A 1936 Rolls Royce converted into a pickup and painted an ugly light blue color by the previous owner.

I remember the episode when the Clampitts went to the bank to "see their money" and it wasn't there...  I'd imagine a converted Rolls would make no more impression on Jed and Granny than an old Chevy held together with bailing wire and bubble gum. Jethro, on the other hand...

I don't get the fastback; it sure limits what you can haul.

Rather than a truck, I'd say it's a two-seater with a giant trunk. So more like "white elephant" for me.

Not very attractive to my eye.
But, since 90% of trucks are driven empty, why not have it streamlined.
I drew up something years ago that was a camper shell that pivoted at the front.
Down was for aero, up was for cargo.

Check out this custom-built Tesla truck!

The looks are very - unique. As long as it's reliable, powerful, good range, and bonus if fast and handles well - who really cares what it looks like.  Depending on price and charge time - I'm interested.

I am super excited for electric trucks, and years ago I had been hoping I would be able to buy one by summer 2020. One of my good friends has had a Tesla Model S for 3 years, and it is an amazing vehicle. Quite fun to drive.

I had been eagerly awaiting the reveal of the cybertruck, and even watched the live unveil with my wife. We were pretty disappointed, in my opinion it is quite ugly. I prefer the looks and utility of the Rivian, although the pricing and tow capacity on the Tesla are admittedly better; not that either are tangible at this point in time.

So while I am excited for electric trucks; I think it will be a few years before they are available, inexpensive, and have a viable range while towing a trailer. Looks like I will be buying a diesel this time around.

0 to 60 under 2.9 seconds (for the 3 motor version) sounds like there may be some interest among folks who habitually disregard speed limits and don't mind ugly. The flat surfaces look like they were designed to reduce the radar scattering cross section to evade highway radar, so we may have a pending public health problem on our hands. Maybe they should have a built in cockpit breath alcohol detector with a power cutoff switch.

Nah, better is the video from the Russian YouTube channel, Garage 54, fitting 13" rims to a Hummer, hell even my sisters Nissan Micra has 15" rims!

I think the biggest rip-off is the last decade automakers selling 18- 21 inch wheels that are still within the same 15 inch tire just a bigger hole in the tire for the rim to fit and basically ruin the ride and then charge more and more for less and less physical Tire 😳

I use my pickup trucks to death out here in farm country and one thing I'm always doing is getting out of the cab and putting socket and wrench sets and various tool items in and out of the bed right behind the cab.  How would you do that with this truck?

Likewise if something small slides forward up against the cab from the only easy accessible area back near the tailgate you have to climb up into the bed to reach it.

This thing is more akin to a Chevy Avalanche as far as bed accessibility is concerned.

It's a look, which some people are willing to pay for and drive.

I think it's less silly than wearing delicate impractical clothes such as a suit and tie and calling it a "professional look".

Not so much a rip-off than marketing to inappropriate users. That type of wheel drives differently. With less rubber/air and more rim, the sideways shear forces in turns cause less sideways movement of the car relative to the road when turning, so the handling can be more precise. There is also less shock absorption from the tire so the cost of the tighter handling is a rougher ride and need for more shock absorption from the suspension. A softer suspension can cause more lean in turns unless there is active correction, which can bring problems of its own. That low profile type of tire is good if you are racing in a high tech car on a smooth track with lots of turns. Not so good if you are driving off road or on a road surface with lots of potholes, or if you just retrofit low profile tires on a car designed for normal tires.

I say beauty is in the eye of the Beerholder, and to make the cybertruck look good, well as Winston Churchill once said as an insult "I may be ugly, but you will still be ugly when I'm drunk!", though personally I don't like the look of any Tesla vehicle. They just don't look right to me.
I'm the same with the Ioniq Electric, the standard Hybrid looks fine (and is an excellent car) but where they have what looks like a single large piece of silver plastic instead of the grill on the electric it just looks wrong.

Part of me thinks that this Cybertruck design is just a decoy until the real design hits the assembly line. But then part of me thinks that Elon has smoked enough weed that he would probably just go with it anyway.

People who buy pick up truck do it because they are functional and not cool or hip looking. But then that market creates it's own hipness among that crowd. I drive a Toyota Tacoma and wouldn't buy that Cybertruck. I think the Rivian truck looks much better and is much more functional that that thing. I can't wait for some hipster to take one of these electric trucks out on an extended overlanding trip and then run the battery down hundreds of miles from the nearest charging port and have to figure out how to charge up the battery to get it home.

Apparently Tesla is eyeing Tulsa as a possible location for the new Cybertruck plant, which I don't think will happen.

At the same time, I'm waiting with baited breath for SpaceX to get their Starlink system up and running and maybe, finally have reliable high speed internet at my house out in the boondocks.

The Churchill quote (as I recall it) was from an interaction with Lady Astor, who reprimanded Winny "Sir, you are drunk!" to which he supposedly replied "Yes, Madam, and you are ugly; the difference being I shall be sober in the morning."

I had a similar reaction of WTF upon first glimpse of this design as well.

That makes me think of the Mummers Theater in OKC. It was designed by John Johansen in the Brutalist style.  He claims he was inspired by how computers worked!  The Mummers was transitioning from a small storefront theater to being the main community theater.  In the fundraising stage it was decided that they needed to have a worldwide competition to get a worldwide star designer so they would have bragging rights.  Of course the chosen winner went way over budget so the production funding for the Mummers got gobbled up.  Oh, one fun thing, one savvy person later claimed that the building was inspired by the many grain elevators in Oklahoma.  That made sense. LOL  It was eventually demolished after flooding.

I'm weird. I like the cybertruck.

I remember when the Ford Taurus first hit the market. Nobody liked it. it was ugly, everybody thought it would be a huge debacle. But they sold, and sold very well. And that ugly body and front wheel drive V6 meant the MPG numbers were huge for a family car.

I also like the Bollinger truck. And as far as function over form goes, the Bollinger has them all beat. Unfortunately I don't thing Bollinger has the business savvy to be a real player in the EV game.

My Dad used to say "beauty is skin deep but ugly is to the bone" it doesn't do anything for me either.  I can't wait to see the new truck from Lordstown Motors.  Right down the highway from me in Ohio.  It is tough looking and has great tech.
