Title: replacement 15" drivers - Turbosound TXD-215
Post by: Eytan Gidron on December 06, 2010, 11:07:51 AM
Hi all,

I have a Turbosound TXD-215 which is used as a drum sub. Lately it blew up it's driver (twice in one month period). I would like to replace it's drivers to get more output and better power handling.

It is a front loaded cabinet with 8 reflex holes. Please advise which "off the shelf" driver will work well (and improve) this cabinet. Here are the technical details -

That's not nearly enough information to recommend a driver.  At the very least you'll need the internal volume (not including the ports and drivers) and the tuning frequency.

Preferable would be the T/S parameters of the Turbo driver.

As others have said 100s of times: the likelihood of getting an off-the-shelf driver to perform better than the drivers designed to work with the box and crossover is very small. The manufacturer has already optimized this system and it is not going to be easy, or maybe even possible, to improve on it. And if you can improve, it will probably be at a cost so significant the entire speaker could have been replaced.

If the box is blowing up, you should consider a better box, rather than upgrading something not designed for such modification.
