Title: Live sound guide
Post by: Lai Hurst on January 11, 2016, 09:48:15 PM
Hi Iam a DJ based in Honduras, Central America. We mostly do techno parties and can vary from 50 to 400 people attending our gigs. Curretly we rent out equipment to a good buddy who own a pair of Jbl mrx528s, a pair of EAW la460 and a pair of gemini 15" passive monitors all hooked up to crown and qsc amps with dbx processing, I have to say it sound great but many times it is not neded that much, actually I have covered before 550 people with that much equipment.
So the time has come for us to buy speakers and very interested in a pair of qsc k10's plus one kw181. My question, would I be able to cover a 200 people gig with this much? I have heard before the combination of k12 plus ksub and it sounds ok, probably looking to sound even or better than that. Thank you

The KW181 is a nice sub. The K12's are good speakers, but you'll be struggling to cover 200 people with them for an EDM show. Yamaha DSR and JBL SRX812P are really nice boxes if you can afford to spend a little bit more.

Don't get Ksub's
I would not get 1 kw181 . You should get 2 at minimum  for 200 people indoors

for small bar techno show, I use 2 k10's over 2 kw181  1 K10 for monitor
for 400 person techno event, I  use  2 kw153's , 4 kw181's   and either 2 k10's or 2 Kw121's  for monitors

as scott said , Yamaha DSR and esp the JBL SRX are nice

+1 on the amount of speakers required.
You should check out some other speakers before you purchase and see what you like the best. Personally, I don't care for the QSC sound, I think they sound a bit harsh when driven harder. Figure out what your budget is and then listen to whatever you can get a hold of first before buying. Lots of good gear from EV, JBL, Yamaha, RCF, etc...
