This looks very cool. It will be interesting to see where it comes in price wise. We've all been expecting/hoping for this to arrive, now it's nearly here.

The new Rio racks are also very cool. You can control the parameters from controls on the Rio, or lock them out, and they have meters.

And redundant power supplies.  Always thought it was odd the current crop didn't have that...

Very nice. Looks like the major differences are that they cut down the number of inputs, out mixes, matrices and expansion slots.

I wonder if that alone will get the price under a hundred grand?

The major difference is the DSP is inside the control surface. Because of that there is not enough DSP to run the TC Electronics reverbs, but there is enough for the Eventide H3000. With no separate DSP chassis there is less room for slots, although there are still 2 MY slots and 3 HY slots.

No word on price yet, but even a PM10 is less than a Digico. I expect under $100k is doable, but I wouldn’t expect much under.

The new Rio boxes are cool if you don’t need the Silk processing. They’ll be great add to the CL family.

And in this biz we only count to 2....

How about this-

A 5D was like half of a 1D, but a PM7 is about .7 of a PM10

I also saw they added the Neve 5045 to the plugin list for the PM line. It would be pretty great if that could trickle down to the CL line.

More than likely, they went with 7 to differentiate it as a step above a CL5, but not as high as a PM10.  5 < 7 < 10   I think Yamaha has a thing against using even numbers.

Redundant power supplies are a point of failure question.  On a large analog console a spare PSU and a couple of master strips and you're covered for most failure modes.  The corresponding back up for any digital console is a second console.  Spare PSUs in that case are placebos.

Probably going to be too much $$$ compared to features as the rest of the current Yamaha range.

I really like the CL/QL stuff, but I can get two mixers just as reliable doing twice the amount of channels each for the price of one QL/CL with RIO racks.

QL1 should do at least 48 mono/8 stereo channels. Preferably 64 for the price.
My little Si Performer 1 is just as reliable and do 80(!) channels to mix.
Only major difference between them is the lack of Dan Dugan for 80% of the jobs this level of consoles do.

And the meters on the SC sucks, but I can live with that.

If I could only be young again. Wouldn't it be nice to be just starting out with option like that board available.

At the intro of the M7CL I asked one of the Japanese Engineers why M7...and was told 7 is a very lucky or holy number

From wikipedia:

The number seven is also considered an unlucky number due to the way it is written as Kanji 七 which is very similar to the way a samurai would commit seppuku were he to have been accused wrongfully. This type of Seppuku is called Memboku Seppuku.[8]
