I have a new installed system in an auditorium that I am trying to make idiot resistant. The basic components are center cluster of 3 EV SX300 driven by one side of a QSC PLX3402 with processing by a Shure DFR22. One input is a small Shure mixer with 12V of phantom available connected to some floor jacks. The system has a remote panel back stage that has on/off and volume. When the back stage switch is used the DFR 22 goes to preset one and the amp is turned on. Preset one has the main console muted and only the small mixer active. Preset one has limiting, back stage volume control, feedback reduction and auto gain. This mode is meant for simple and unattended use by teachers and custodians. As a system it works great except for one problem, the lectern mic needs phantom power and I cant be guarantee the mics will not be hot plugged (instruction and warnings only go so far.)
Now for the real question, is there a phantom supply I can build for the lectern that can be hot plugged with out popping badly? I have AC at the lectern for the light so that is not a problem. Or is there a filter I can put on the mic input that would pass phantom but not pop? Any other ideas are welcome too.
