Title: 2x18" SUB plans....
Post by: John W. Boneske on December 23, 2010, 03:32:03 PM
I am looking for some double 18" sub plans. The picture is like what I am looking for! Something similar to the pic would be great! Approx 48"H x 24"D x 24"W, load them with a Eminence, Peavey, or similar!

I posted before but cant find something easy enough for me to build! And, where can I find custom speaker grills?

That is about as easy as it gets. 6 sides and some bracing and 3" ports.

Penn Fabrication sells grill material and ports (along with everything else you would need.

Now if you want a specific tuning, then that gets a little bit more involved-depending on what performance you are looking for.

So you would need to define what it is you are looking for-loud-low etc and what is more important.  This will affect the box size and the tuning (port size/length).

What you are basically asking for is a car with 4 wheels-an engine etc.  WHat you have not told us is how many people you want to carry-or do you want to carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood or do you want to go 150mph.

Each of those will narrow down the choices for what is best for YOU-nto somebody else.  Other people have different needs for a vehicle-just like different needs for a sub.

Or better yet, let Eminence do the work for you. Pick your driver here and then pick from the options.

TL80D 48x31.5x28.875, designed for EV-DL18W or TL56D (21.375" deep) for the DL18X. If you use different woofers the tuning will not be correct.

Dozens of designs for 12" through 18" speakers with good construction technique tips.

These have a few more bits of wood in them but they should still be fairly easy to cut and assemble - and fewer round holes to cut and no port tubes to source.

Speakerplans G-Sub

Cheers,
David.

I'd just buy some nice used QW218, SRX728, or the like.  The cost won't be much more, and when you try to sell them they will actually be worth something.
