Title: ZX1 vs Forcei monitor
Post by: John Erwin on December 25, 2007, 02:58:31 PM
Anybody had a chance to compare EV Zx1's and Forcei monitor? I'm looking for a small passive monitor, I love my ZX5 mains - so the ZX1's have my attention.  I have used and like the Forcei monitors for their low profile.

The Force work, and are decently durable.
The sound is passable for the price.

I've had some problems with the internal crossovers falling out and rolling around inside.
(honestly, is epoxy that much more expensive than hot melt glue?)

The grilles also need foam under them unless you like bits of junk in your horns.

Epoxy is insanely expensive. Not because of the material cost, but because it takes forever to cure.  And you have to have all these parts sitting there on your production line for hours while it sets up.

The Force stuff I've seen is often the same frames and cones as the better stuff, but with smaller magnet structures.  Sometimes they are the voice coils and pole pieces from older lines.  The quality is good, and the sound is often just as good.  They just won't handle the same power.
