Title: EV EVX-150A Loaded Subs
Post by: Art Welter on May 06, 2010, 08:45:06 PM
The Welter Systems C-Horns are a very efficient  folded horn. They get loud with as little as 200 watts, but around  800 to 1200 watts  at 8 ohms is a good power level for dynamic music with them. The horn loading raises the impedance above the nominal 8 ohm driver rating. A pair are capable of 133+ dB continuous, 136+ peak output at one meter.

Their frequency and phase response is very smooth, with an easily correctable rising response from 45 to 125Hz.
Very good for rock kick/and bass, but deep enough for dance tracks.
The white trace in the chart below shows one cabinet, brown is two cabinets with the input voltage left the same.

They use the Electro Voice EVX-150A driver, conservatively rated for 500 watts  sine wave, 1000 watts continuous program power.
It is a very tough (and expensive) carbon fiber speaker.

Cabinet dimensions are 22.5 x 26.5 x 30 inches deep, weight is 105 pounds.
They have a pole mount hole cut for standard 1” EMT pipe.

Price is $600 for the pair plus shipping from Santa Fe, NM 87505.

On the graph in the above post, “+0” is equal to 120 dBSPL, using 63 Volts input (500 watts) into a single sub.

For high powered DJ use a 45 Hz 24 dB per octave HP filter is recommended.

This chart shows the pair of C horns, a JBL SRX 728 (about the same size as two C horns) and a single Chorn, all at the same amplifier output, using  25 and 125 Hz BW filters, no EQ.
The blue trace is the pair of C horns, the lower trace the single C horn.
