Title: PTZ Camera system for SD or HD production?

Hi
Wondering if anyone is using a PTZ system for production work. If so what sort of quality you are getting. What sort of costs?

We do live production work for corporates, as well as webcasts. We presently use SD Pro cameras with camera men but customers looking for cheaper solution. We have capacity for HD so would be interested in this scenario also.

We use Elmo PTZ cameras very succesfully in the HD arena. PTC 400s I think.

Thanks for that. Just to clarify are you using them to produce large screen images or web cast?

Either. They don't really compare with a studio quality 3CCD camera, but they are pretty good looking as far as PTZ cameras go.

We are using two of the Sony BRCH Z700's and they rock.  We have the HD cards and are feeding them right into our HD router so we can take them to record, Imag or into PIPs for product shots and pick ups.  The 20X lens makes this a huge improvement over the older 700's.

I typically look at Sony, Panasonic and Vaddio for packaged camera and pan/tilt units and controllers.  Or at Sony, Panasonic and JVC for cameras with Panasonic, Vaddio, AMX, Crestron or Telemetrics for pan/tilts and controllers.

A few things to consider include what signal format you are you considering?  Do you plan to pan, tilt or zoom with the camera live?  How do you plan to control the cameras?  How many cameras may be involved?  What zoom and field of view are required?  Would you prefer a packaged camera/pan/tilt unit or separate cameras and pan/tilts?  Along with general image quality issues, these types of questions may eliminate or support different options.
