Title: Midrange LCR consoles?
Post by: Tony Grimwood on September 14, 2004, 11:57:21 PM
Hi all.
I'm looking around for an LCR capable console for theatre work. The client's budget will probably stretch to something like a Crest XVCA or A&H ML-something, probably in a 40 channel frame size. I've looked at the two consoles I mentioned above, which have the LCR (and mute automation) that I'm after and I'm wondering what other fish are in the sea in roughly the same cost ballpark...?

Cheers,

Tony

For production work at your price range it's hard to beat a Yamaha DM1000 or DM2000.  A 40 channel DM2000 will set you back a bit more than $15K US.  The DM1000 is about half that.

Both consoles support LCR as well as 5.1 surround sound mixing.  Since they are digital consoles, mute automation (along with a whole lot more) is not a problem (8 mute groups plus 99 scenes).

I use a DM2000 on a weekly basis in a 1700 seat church and it is very powerful and very nice to use.  The learning curve was not huge either.  The church puts on several fairly serious theatrical productions each year.
