Title: Audix VX5 Review: In-Depth Sonic Characteristics
Post by: Sean Chen on July 01, 2018, 10:14:43 AM
I did a short video reviewing the sonic characteristics of the Audix VX5.

I also did a shootout of the VX5, Shure SM58, KSM9HS, KSM9, KSM8, and Heil PR35 (wired)

The mixer is Mackie DL1608 with the following settings on all the wireless channels:
Preamp Gain: +40 dB
Gain trim: 0
EQ: flat
HPF: 100 Hz
Gate: Vocal 2 preset (mainly to mute RF white noise)
Compression: Vocal 2 preset
Channel Fader: 0 dB

I've always liked the VX5. I have a couple of wired ones. I like that it's natural sounding like any good condenser but without the hype on the top and bottom end, or rather, with a more pronounced mid range. Works quite well to help a vocal sit within a mix.

There is no review of the wireless version of the VX5, so I decided to put together a review. The wireless version seems to be more of a cardioid pick up pattern with my off-axis testing, instead of the supercardioid on the wired version. There is no documentation of the polar graph I can find no the VX5 wireless capsule. I can tell that the rear ports on the wired VX5 are not on the wireless capsule.

I am also a big fan of the vx-5.   It is by far my favorite mic to sing on.
