Title: Post Count Resurrection?
Post by: Noah D Mitchell on December 31, 2010, 11:34:48 AM
Am I the only one who sheds a tear looking at the measly little post count numbers?

Personally, I was proud of my (now) 352 posts. Also - I would use the post count of other users as a sort of 'worthiness' rating dictating who/how much I should listen to them.

Any chance to bring those old numbers over? .....please?

...or maybe I'm missing the point.

I'd be glad to give you a few thousand of mine, which I consider prima facia evidence of me wasting too much time.

Some of us have been through resets before... post count doesn't mean anything useful one way or the other.

First, I'll say I'm not a huge fan of these forums.

Second, I'm not exactly happy with my post count of "1" now either.

Post count is a good measure of credibility, I think, and it will really hamper the forums if everyone is reset to zero.

Maybe it's good to let go of the previous post counts. It tends to make most people think a little more about the person they're replying too. In other words, not everyone with 4-5 thousand posts actually knows what they're talking about. Likewise not everyone that has but a few posts is the village idiot. This is actually a fairly small community and we all pretty much know each others capabilities anyway.

At least 5 out of 6 do. ;)

As a funny consequence the reset makes Mac a Newbie again...  ;D

At least I have a life again - as defined by the Pro Sound Web anyway.

I'm not worried about post count... most of us know who's credible in our books already from the previous forums...

Just like many of the people that were already on the forums before I joined seem to have a personal tie/understanding of each other more. it will happen with the other people again.

Post counts are mostly usefull for new users.  We get to know people soon enough from their post contents.

That's the funniest thing I have read in along time.  Silas, when you stop posting here, you have a future in stand up.

I have to disagree, I could go spam the DJ forum and get 200 posts real quick and people are still gonna know that I am full of shit. :P

Just requesting your post count be transferred over. FUD ends end of Feb (last day is floating, heh), so say Feb 25th. However many posts you've got then, its possible just to plug in here. Its just a little setting, not hard to change. Post counts are simple as pie. Changing the post count for thousands of members will suck :) Same with join date.

Post counts really mean nothing IMHO. Some of us lurk more than post. Some have tons of posts from Bumping items (Silas). If i have ever had a doubt about someone I could go and read some of their older posts or I could ask others on the forum.  So if you are really worried about your post count it really makes me wonder if you may or may-not be as credible as we thought you maybe.

I'm pretty sure everyone is clear on this issue.

Hey Chad, with the pile already on your plate, do you really want to open that can ?
I agree with many others. Quantity doesn't automatically mean quality.
It's just a number. Get over it.

So...I look smarter since my post isn't comparatively low!  I'd better keep my mouth shut so that I continue to look smart for a few weeks.  ;D

There I said it. Now I have a post count. ;D

In the Old LAB, I was impressed when a heavyweight in the industry would post only very occasionally.  Sometimes when a topic involved their work or company.

If i can bump in.. there is some things that can happen when people would "reclaim" their post count.. biggest thing is  how could moderators be right that the person is requesting his own postcount and not somebody ellses.. there is many people with the same name.

It would be a really wise use of the moderators time to port over post counts, that way we'd all know exactly how smart eachother are.

Also I propose that we get badges to put in our wallets, based on post counts so that we can show everyone just how many times we've clicked the post button.
