actually the plastic nut on my Peavey pv118 melted to the cable .That input is shot but do you think the rest of the speaker is damaged? I didn't see any other thing wrong

The heat is caused by the resistance due to the poor connection of a 1/4" connector. It is quite amazing how hot a 1/4" plug/jack can become. That is why it is not used as a pro connection (and other reasons-damping factor-again due to high resistance of the connection and so forth).
There is no way to know about the speaker. Of course it could have been a blown speaker that caused the excessive current.
The only way to tell is to take the speaker out and see. Put a 9V battery across the loudspeaker terminals and see if it "pops". If it does-then that is a good sign.
If not you need to dig a bit deeper.

Depending on the plate and room available. You might just have to drill out a larger hole ( a step bit is good for this)
