Title: kids and turntables
Post by: Gene Hardage on January 06, 2011, 09:01:40 PM
Both of my daughters have been bitten by the turntable bug.  My youngest made me break out the old Thornes that belt drives me crazy 'cause it's looser than a teenage boy's jeans and always falling off.  It's really tricky to get it spinning without the belt coming off.  Does anyone else have kids going through this 33.3 phase ???

I got my first turntable at 17 (I'm 22 now) because I started listening to lots of classical music.

My dad had several hundred orchestral records, and what he didn't have, I could buy on vinyl for about a tenth of the cost of a CD recording.  I still listen to vinyl all the time because the recordings are so cheap!

Careful Gene, they will be asking for a Linn Sondek next!

my son was recently at my moms, and she has an extensive collection of older vinyl. I caught him staring at the storage rack with this puzzled look on his face. After a few minutes he turned to me and whispered "dad, what are those, big CD's?"

Smile

I'm embarrassed to think about how long it's been since my LP12 was spun.  The Klouts are kept off, but the Kairn is always warm and ready.

People have been claiming a vinyl revival for years. The general public dont buy it and the djs have long since moved to free download. I think the sales are strictly in niche underground format. Maybe sales are up but from what? Maybe I should read the link posted.
