Title: "Master Audio" Products ?????
Post by: Chad Honigwachs on October 18, 2012, 05:16:47 PM
Hey Guys, I have been searching all over LAB and I havnt found any info on Master Audio products.

As far as I know they are made in Barcelona, they are not entry level stuff and are not entry level budget either.

They have just been brought into Cape Town South Africa and was wondering if anybody has ever heard them or used them, what they are like compared to Martin, D&B etc.

any replies are most welcome.

Regards
Chad

Chad,

Something important to consider is the ability of the local distributer (and in essence, the manufacturer) to support the product once you have bought it. Sound quality is sadly not the only criteria when selecting an audio system.

Master Audio is typically the small company that makes good products but sells other a very limited area. They are located in Spain, they have acquired a good reputation up to... the south of France. I mean even in the north they are not much known (or their name is known but nobody has ever met a single one of their product).

There are tons of small companies like that and the products do usually have a very good price/quality ratio. They are more or less in the same ballpark as the L'acoustics, Nexos, Camcos, etc. with a price way lower. L'acoustics, Nexo or even QSC, Crown... have been this kind of small company at the beginning. Some companies grow more than others.

If the price is very competitive, there are risks buying such products:
- Rider friendliness (which may or may not be a problem for you)
- Distribution, local support, etc.
- Company going bankruptcy (unfortunately)

As Nathan said, local support is at least as important as quality. This is not only a question of company size or name: we do not find many Clair Brothers products here in France, although everybody knows them. But there is no real local distribution. Audix was completely ignored for years. Today it is very common to find their microphones since DistriPan began their distribution.

Hi Nicolas

Thanx for the heads up, that is definitely something I will take into consideration.

Martin Audio is also not too badly priced, how rider friendly is it in the over seas market? I haven't seen it appear on any riders as yet.

Hi,

my small company has been using Master Audio amplifiers for more than 15 years from DL series ( discontinued ), DP5000 big boy amp ( discontinued ), DX series - attempt from Master Audio to manufacture in China (discontinued ) to HD series.

All these amps performed to our expectations, the built in clip limiters are some of the best in the analog world IMO, no DJ could manage to destroy one of my speakers.

I don't use their speakers besides the B-series, small installation boxes for bars and the like.
These are quite usefull.

German Production Partner mag has tested and measured some of the Xcellence series stuff, but don't remember when

Although I did no survey of product acceptability across the whole world, my feeling is that Martin Audio, as a brand, is fully rider friendly except for the F-series, which might be what you were thinking to.

Anyway the riders do not specify the whole range of acceptable products, there are far too many! Moreover, many riders seem very directive at first look, way above what the band can reasonably expect. You could be tempted to explain that band the real life. But it is rarely a problem indeed, as you often discover you know the band’s rider better than they do…

Also remember that rider friendliness is mainly a question of tacit agreement on what can be expected locally. I’ve been in a few small venues in Buenos Aires last year, encountering JBL JRX speakers, Behringer desks or, in high end jazz club, Yamaha… though Argentina is not third world country. I do not know about South Africa.

we never see Master Audio boxes in China, I found it present their products in some shows, like Pro Light & Sound(Frankfurt, Germany). Now, they have no distributor in China market not as JBL, d&b, Meyersound do.

Hi Chad,

Hope you are well.  In terms of your post regarding Master Audio...as you know already, we (db Audio) are the official importers and distributors of their product here in South Africa.  We are currently working out a few things and should have our first shipment of Demo Stock soon!

In terms of one of the replies you received..i.e. Price Point and Rider Friendly..

In short.. The pricing is going to be similar to that of JBL products, however, both myself and Michael Isaacs (db Audio founding partner) can assure you that the sound quality is exceptionally better.  There are a number of reports from distributors like us in France etc who have actually done A/B comparisons between Master Audio's Xcellence Series Line Array and Meyer Sound Line Array... Upon the removal of the black mesh cloth, the client was dumbfounded and needless to say invested his money into Master Audio.  For what it's worth...already, Master Audio is and has been used by some big names, most recently Psy "Gangnam Style" at a 80 000 capacity concert.  See this link... http://master-audio.com/noticias2.asp?id=111  (Note:  24 units of MA210D line array systems, 12 units of MAW215W subwoofers and 12 units of SM12D monitors)

In addition to their Xcellence Series, they now offer the same series with full ethernet and Wifi control... Really phenomenal!

Another quick reference.. St. Yves Beach Club (Camps Bay)... They purchased some EV ZX1 Speakers for their DJ Booth Monitors (from a music store I won't mention names), and whilst they were waiting for their order, they hired our Master Audio P26A's.  Their EV's arrived, and we installed them on behalf of the above non-mentioned music store.  2 Weeks later...EV's blown!  They called us and asked to hire the Master Audio P26A's again... The EV's were repaired and were re-installed a week later.  HERE's the BIG ONE... The owner asked if he could still hire our Master Audio P26A's... He has now had them for roughly 3 months and swears by them (along with every other DJ that has played there).  He currently has a Yamaha PA System and has recently met with us to discuss installing Master Audio in his new venue which he plans to open up by September 2013.

If you would like to hear the P26's, give me or Michael a call.

Go well!  Ken
