Hello!
So, I was hired in August to lead all of our Audio Visual endeavors at a university and have a unique situation that I am trying to build a system for but need some advice. What we currently have is a Behringer WING with 7 analog outputs from a DL32 to our amp racks for audio. This is in a hybrid gymnasium and events center, but students want to be able to link their phones up to play music. However, our largest problem is people messing around with our soundboard and other production gear. We are planning to lock all of that up for use during events only and install a 2-gang RDL Dante Bluetooth interface and start utilizing Dante to connect our soundboard and this miniature console to our amp racks. The only problem I am encountering is how we can limit the volume that the RDL box is able to push, as well as allowing us to completely shut down our WING when not needed while still allowing the use of the RDL box.
This may sound complicated and can answer any necessary questions related to this. Thanks so much in advance!!

A thought: Most multi-purpose rooms like this use a system processor to handle and distribute inputs such as the RDL input you mentioned, plus the processor handles audio from the console. Properly programmed this system design allows you to give various types of audio access to the main PA while not requiring the console to even be turned on. The system processor can also handle volume control using wall-mount controls, allow you to easily limit the non-console input audio if necessary, and even handle fire alarm interrupts if needed. Some designs even allow the console to be wheeled away to a more secure location when not needed.

+1 on the dedicated processor. This would go between your mixer and the amps. It can then act either as a mixer, or a switch to determine where the source comes from, and can have different limits and easy to use volume controls placed where needed.
If you need to feed the signal back into your mixer, that could be built into the design as well.

Another vote for a separate system processor to select between the two operating modes.
Do they have a system processor in place already, if so what model.

And another. That痴 the right way to accomplish this. I prefer Q-Sys so for simple use I壇 probably setup an aterotech axion c1 controller and a Bluetooth unit unit for general use. That allows you to completely decouple your wing from the system.

The most universal choice by most companies now seems to be QSC QSys. I'd look there first.
Other options that can work, whether or not they're as good as QSys is TBD, are
Symetrix
Biamp Tesira
Xilica FR1
And possibly one or two others.
The DSP is the 'brain' of the system. Dante is merely a transport protocol to get audio from points A to B, C, D, etc. How that audio is controlled (touch screens, wireless iPads, etc) and processed is all DSP.

Stereo Mains, two sets of Stereo delays, and mono side-fills (total of 7 channels amongst 4 amp racks). For basic use, we only need the mains since it's not meant for volume. We also have stereo floor subs that would only be used by major events, so those don't have to be part of the dante network and can simply use two outputs from our stage box

It sounds like you're in a position where you'd be best served by hiring an integration company. It's easy to install a processor wrong. It takes skill and experience to do it right. The most powerful systems like Q-Sys really take training and experience to install properly. It's not the kind of thing you get as a box sale.
