Title: New iPad Pro (12x chip)
Post by: Debbie Dunkley on November 07, 2018, 02:45:39 PM
Just watched the video for the new iPad pro 12x. Oh boy.
I have the iPad Pro with the 10x chip and I love it. The response time is great - it is the only iPad I own ( I own 4 total - Ipad2, iPad mini, iPad Air and iPad pro) that doesn't cause latency when I run my lights - since Luminair 3 launched. (My iPhone 6 also does not cause latency but is horrible too use live).
11" and 12.9" screens to choose from.

If Santa brings me one of these, I could use an iPad Pro for sound AND lights...mmm

Kinda......... but my first iPad is over 7 years old (which makes it a dinosaur) and SLOOOOOW, the mini was an achievement award (again 6 or 7 years old) and the Air I picked up for $100 from a friend last year (partly to help him out).
The iPad 2 was the first iPad I used for remote mixing on my QU mixers and it never let me down. I have used it as my back up at shows.
The iPad Pro was released 18 months ago and is so much faster and nicer to use.

I can get a whopping $25 if I trade in my old ipad2. It still works and doesn't have a scratch on it - none of them do.

Eh, maybe.
I use my (admittedly, a few years old now) laptop for gaming, video and audio processing and while the iPad's CPU is faster than mine, I'd bet the iPad would have to throttle it's performance as heat becomes an issue.
I suppose it's like comparing an old iron amp vs modern switch-mode.

Okay, that's insane. But I'm with Chris, I doubt it can run at 100% all cores maxed while rendering an After Effects video for two hours.

Also, the lack of a mouse makes it inefficient UI experience for most normal laptop duties.

Off-topic... holy cats is Tom's Hardware difficult to read/navigate. It's nothing but ads, banners, footer ads, notices, videos... wow. Super annoying.

Wow, I thought I'd just have to live with latency and Luminair 3 with My iPad 2 (3/11), Mini Retina (5/14) and 2 Air (3/15).  Makes me want to give Apple some more money.

I upgraded to Luminar 3 and was not very happy because of the latency - they went to 64 bit which requires faster processing and the older iPads don't have it. When I run L 3 with my iPad Pro it is great. I can no longer use my older iPads for lighting.
I purchased the iPad Air so I could have a back up for my lights - it's not as fast as the ipad pro but faster than the ipad 2.
Try to get hold of an iPad Pro - Luminair 3 runs nice and fast - latency is virtually zero.

Yeah adblock works well-ish on that site. Most of the ads except for the in-page ads are gone.

Toms Hardware used to be so good, but now they're bloated :/ sad.

At home: AdBlock all the way.

At work: they don't allow extensions/add-ons... so, I'm stuck dealing with ads.
