Hate to disagree with you Andy but...I disagree. If it sounds good its not wrong, and I'm sure plenty of people on here (yourself and myself included) are capable of getting a great kick sound with hole mic placement. Perhaps inside is better, its just that plain wrong thing that gets me.

Let us know if you like it better than the 902..I am demoing one and it works really well...and I have a D6 on a bass cab..good to..will use the nD6 on some kicks this weekend.

And thus one of the main reasons why switched from the AKG D112 to the D6   - I think it's frequency response, when coupled with a well-tuned drum and proper mic placement, makes for a great starting point for a great sounding kick.  I guess that kinda stuff goes for most sources though...

This works very well with and without a boom and can reach within inches of the front head.  Folds flat too.

I did actually use the K&M model for the D6 first -> Loved the sound. Nice click together with a decent donkey kick.  

Then on another gig with the same kick I tried something else. I put my e901 inside the kick on the pillow and positioned D6 inside the hole on a standard mic stand so that D6 was almost entirely in, but some 1.5" still from the "thin part" was out.

WOW!!!

I got the click that I knew I will get by using the e901 -> this is the one I like myself  

BUT...

The "donkey kick" totally surprised me. D6 gave SO much more punch to the lower end by this setup than any other mic I've used before.

I think I have found my new favorite kick mic combo
