I have been working with a local music producer in vancouver canada over the last 6 months who produces all his music in 5.1 surround sound. his music is dance oriented and as of last weekend i have done sound for 3 of his shows, 2 indoors and 1 outdoors all of which i set up the pa for 5.1 sound. wondering
if anybody around here has experience working in 5.1 and would
care to comment on set up theory, techniques, tips or tricks.
i used rcf self powered 4 pro subs and tops with all 6 channels
linked directly to his motu ultralite. all metering, compression, eq etc done though cubase on his laptop. all shows worked out well but i wouldnt lie in saying a know much about
optimizing this type of a set up. i hope this sparks some discussion around this technology. i know this was never really visioned to be used for live music but more and more artists
are using 5.1 and to be honest it sound pretty wild experiencing this beyond the living room.
