Brandon may have meant only 3 showed up on time; my experiences with Martin over the years has been very erratic. Sometimes they really take care of business, sometimes they just don't care. Of course, the same can be said for just about every company out there, as everyone on our side of the industry has horror stories to tell about every manufacturer/distributor there is.

There is no doubt that Martin is one of the biggest names in the lighting business, especially for touring companies. If you are going to compete with the big boys, you'd probably be wise to own a pile of their stuff. If you're buying stuff for your own use, or a smaller local or regional market, Using Elation, Robe, or similar is probably worth looking at if you're not trying to match specs for a touring act.

The quality of Robe, Elation, and Martin are all pretty robust, and all three typically support their products well (of course, YMMV), but Elation in particular is marketing a lot of their line towards the budget-restricted clients who want similar features to the big boys, but can't justify the expense. Using a rig consisting of all Elation product would probably look great and cost quite a bit less. May not be quite as bright, but I don't think the difference would have any effect at all on the gig UNLESS you were trying to mix similar fixtures for the same purpose.
