Tascam CD-RW900 experiences?
« on: September 04, 2007, 02:33:39 PM »

The boss wants a CD r/w machine in our next FOH rack.  Unbalanced analog i/o is acceptable.  Lives in shock-mount rack with DSP & eq.  Street price of <$500 desired.

So...  Tascam seems to have issues within models, based on a quick search of the forums.  Anyone have experience with the CD-RW900 or 900SL?

Suggestions for alternate units welcomed!

Have fun, good luck.

I have a lowly Tascam CDRW-700 and when I thought I wanted a more "pro" unit, I bought an HHB 850Plus. The HHB is no doubt a very nice machine, but 3 days past the warranty (one year), it died and I had it repaired for almost $300.00. Meanwhile, the Tascam has never missed a beat in almost 5 years.

I've said this before, but I'm of the opinion that they are all a crapshoot at best if you're traveling with them or otherwise using them as we do.

HTH, take care,

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...but I believe the 900 is the replacement for the 750.  My understanding is that the only major difference is the MP3 stuff.

That being said, we've had several 750's get tossed around on the road and have never had a problem.  I installed a 900 in a church a while ago and they have had no issues (although a low level of abuse).

Great RECORDER, lousy PLAYER. This thing takes forever to load and play a CD, but it's a great choice for recording.

DITTO -
records great.
Solid unit

I've installed dozens of them in churches and use one in my rack as well
