Hole punch for Neutrik 'D' size holes
« on: October 27, 2007, 04:33:12 PM »

I have tried searching here and on the web, but cannot find anything about a hole punch/knockout tool made for the Neutrik D standard sized hole.

Does anyone know anything about a place where I could order one (short of having one made)?

I use a Greenlee Slugbuster for a 3/4" knockout..just enough room to slide an NL4 chassis mount in.  I believe the actual hold diameter ends up about 15/16"

The specification is a 23.80mm (0.9370") diameter hole.

A 15/16" hole is 0.9375" and would be about as close as you could get without getting something custom.

That might be a tight fit. The drawings of the panel cutouts I've seen show them as being 24mm, or .945" for D series or P series. The combo connectors are 23.8mm. A 15/16" punch might be a little snug, although it may be worth a try. A 1" will be pretty loose. The other option is to have someone with a water jet cutter cut the panels.

I use a uni-bit if I'm mounting in aluminum, but there are draw-thru's that will work in steel;

This looks like a good choice:

Thanks for the replies everyone.  I guess I should have been more specific.  I am looking for a punch that also punches the small screw holes on the sides as well.  For some reason, I thought I had seen one once.  Perhaps I am mistaken.

As for water jet cutting, we usually have all our panels custom made and labeled, but occasionally things change or something unexpected comes up and we need to make a hole on site.  We have a hydraulic punch set with a round punch that works for the large hole.  However, if you have multiple connectors to mount, getting all the small holes perfectly aligned get quite frustrating....

Thanks!

I think most people who are making panels more than the odd "one off" are having a CNC machine mill the panels.  There is no all in one "punch" that I have heard of for that particular connector hole set.
