Am I the only one that thinks the rear of an amp rack is much more sexier?

Nope.

It's fine if you don't like self-powered, some people don't, I don't know why, and I don't really care (if plugging two connections into one speaker is really that much of a big deal for you, I suggest therapy). However, I believe a quick look at the marketplace will make it obvious that you're spreading short-sighted misinformation based on (perhaps) a woefully inadequate survey of currently available options.

Now, obviously, I work for a powered speaker manufacturer, but I like to think I'm a pretty down to earth guy and if these products were a scam to take your money and make you buy different cabling I'm sure a few people would have caught on by now. Considering some of the best regarded speakers in the industry are self powered, I'm pretty sure someone's looking at the big picture when they do their purchasing.

If you would prefer to debate with me point by point, I welcome it, but please start another thread, and I suggest doing some basic research to get your facts straight beforehand.

P.S. As for "don't like moisture", I don't think it's necessary to re-post the photo from a show I did with Jason a few months ago where I left two full powered line array hangs plus subs, fills, and 6 monitor mixes up in typhoon-like conditions (on land), and after the rain had subsided several hours later flipped the main power back on and ran the show.

To add to that, I had a tent flap full of rain water cave in right on top of an ATA 118.
I pulled the power, flipped it over and wiped it with a towel.
Five minutes and a move later we were good to go.

Les,

Please do tell.  What in the hell is a MicroTech 600 LX?   And how does it differ from the Microtech 600 with the controls in the rear and few indicators?

I am not at all familiar  with this amp.

IIRC the Microtech 600lx was the predecessor to the modern microtech 600. It had the looks of a macrotech but the controls were on the front instead of the back.

...Not exactly.  When the MA/MT line came out, there was a Microtech that was configured as you still know it, (different front, knobs on back), AND the "Microtech LX", which was the original name of what you know now as the "Macrotech" family.  I was told Crown decided to change the "LX" portion of the line's name to "Macrotech" to reduce confusion caused by the similarity of the original names.

I bought that amp new.  I think in the mid to late eighties.
