Young and/or Inexperienced NJ Area Soundpeeps - Check It!
« on: October 16, 2007, 10:51:58 AM »

Attention All NJ Area Newbie Types

Jason Dermer has posted an excellent opportunity over in The Marketplace.

Check it out by clicking HERE

Sometimes, when nobody else is around and he gets to the very bottom of his call list, Mr. Dermer will contact me about working with him. If I lived closer to Asbury Park, I'd actively seek more work with Jason. I find all aspects of the working conditions he offers to be excellent. It's that two-and-a-half hour drive each way that gets to be kind of rugged.

If you are an up-and-coming sound newbie, I strongly suggest you take Mr. Dermer up on this offer. The kind of experience he is offering is better that what a lot of people PAY FOR. Not only is Jason an excellent engineer, but the people skills he exhibits while dealing with both the old pros and youngsters on his stage are extraordinary.

The only down side to this experience would be that some people might go out into the world and expect all clubs to be run like The Stone Pony, and all house guys to be like Jason Dermer.

I find them to be more the exception than the rule.

Get with Jason, become exceptional.

Thanks Dave. Embarassed

On the reverse side, Dave is far from a "bottom of the call list" guy. He put it best though, that 2.5 hours in between us...

If we could just get Dave to stop bringing out his EchoPlex tape delay.  Laughing Of note, there's a mint one on Ebay right now. It looks brand new.

Hey! it's a Roland Space Echo!  Laughing

Actually, I sold it a couple years ago for three-and-a-half times the $50.00 I paid for it and included an extra tape and a service manual.

I bought if from a keyboard player friend of mine after he bought an SPX-90 the very first week they came out.

A Space Echo is pretty cool, but an Echoplex would be cooler. You can slide the head spacing on an Echoplex, you can only select different heads on a Roland.  Cool

When I finally went to see "Cats" 11 years after it opened, and heard the sound effects I had created for it 11 years earlier, I was appalled at the way the big echo on Old Deuteronomy sounded at the end of the show. It was a Roland RE301.

No kidding. I'd almost be willing to by my own plane ticket out there, just to get to mix for shows like this, on an APB or M7CL console.

If you are awaiting a reply or phone call from me concerning the position(s), please be patient. I've gotten quite a few responses and am trying to reach out to everyone personally.
Thanks-
Jason
