Semi Permanent FOH Booth Suggestions?
« on: July 16, 2007, 12:40:10 PM »

If anyone has any pics or ideas they are willing to share, I would sure appreciate it.
I recently took on a "house" sound gig, using my gear. I use it 5-6 nights a week at this club, but leave it set up all the time.
I'm wanting ideas for a FOH "booth" that won't be an eye sore, but also be secure enough that I don't worry too much about the FOH gear when I'm not there to watch it.
I've seen some over the years, nad have a decent idea of what I want to build. I'm just looking for any suggestions & pictures from you guys.
Thanks!      Smile

The audiopile stuff has little tabs to put padlocks on to lock the covers on.

We have a handfull of portable systems (Mackie SRM450's) where the FOH console, rack gear, and even the snake are all wired into an rolling mixer rack.

It works very nice if you have a rack mountable mixer.

For one of the systems we needed 24 channels so we had to upgrade to a large console (an old version of Yamaha's MG24/14FX).  It is about 36 inches wide.  So we upgraded to a (arrrgh) Grundorf Combo Case.  Luckily, the rack never has to leave the building, so the carpeted case has been fine.

It is two racks wide, so it had room for the console on top and plent of room for rack gear below.

I'm working on ordering a Grundorf Combo Case this week. I just need to confirm the size I need to get in order to keep the inserts/effects plugged in while stored.  I'm going with a desk with two 18 space racks.

What I would do in your situation is;

1. get a mixer and rack on wheels. If it is a 19" rack mount mixer then go with the audiopile one. This way you can just roll it off into a closet when it is not being used.

2. panel on the back of the rack with a powercon input for power or a twist lock 30amp or something like that depending on how much power you need for the FOH rack. Powercon should do the trick.

3. Also in that panel is a multipin connection with all your inputs and outputs wired in and ready to go.

4. Get the club to set you up a box either on a wall near by where FOH goes or under the floor or somewhere like that so the snake and power can be run to a lockable box. In this box will be a powercon connection and the multipin connection.

5. have a length of power cable and a length of multipin to plug from the box to the rack.

setup takes 5 min while drinking a beer or two. Should be easy enough.
