That's because Evan doesn't have to lift them.

Hey Ryan,

Just wondering what made you choose the pull over racks rather than regular racks or shock mount racks.  I chose the EWI shock mount racks because I hate pulling off the tops of the pull overs (I am short and it is a PITA for me to lift them the whole way) and I am hopeful that they will give a little extra protection for the gear.  What's you opinion on the pull overs?

An old photo.  We've acquired some new racks, new gear and re-worked the FOH setups.  This is now the B-rig rack.

I have seen folks load FOH racks as 12-14u pull overs and then set the racks on top of the cases at the gig.

I love the pull overs.  That allows me to tilt the racks back easier for easy viewing and adjustment.  Also, the covers make a nice console-holder-thingamajiggy.

The shock mount stuff is nice... however, the pullovers and the casterboard part are padded also.  So, some insurance there too.  Probably not as thick as the foam in the shockmount racks though.

If I was getting something smaller like a 12U I think I'd go with shock racks.

We choose pull overs because it allowed us to put the racks (14 space) on top of the lids to get the gear at shoulder/head level.  I prefer not to have to bend down to make a change.

As for using the lids as a console stand, with the larger boards, we sucked it up and bought tilt stands.  They are shockingly expensive when you first buy them, but the price seems to get more and more reasonable with every use.  Buy once, cry once.
