Knob turning on iPad?
« on: February 22, 2011, 03:35:07 PM »

For anyone using an iPad and a VNC, is it possible to use the knob based controls in the LS9 Editor with SM (specifically with an LS9)? I'd want to be able to adjust compressor thresholds, change an output delay, change input channel or output mix PEQ settings, and so on.

I have no problems turning knobs in Studio Manager with my VNC app on my iPhone. It should be even easier on an iPad.

Works fine from the iPad. You just drag in a circle.
Most VNC clients also have a scroll wheel implementation, so you can set the cursor on the knob and run it up and down with the scroller.
Also, you can zoom in on the tiny bars in fader group view and make them big enough to use.

...change an output delay...

IIRC, outport gain/polarity/delay is not accessable via studio manager and thus not by VNC viewer.  It's a nice concept to think about standing in the seam and aligning zone to zone, but no dice with SM.  Don't know if Airfader is a game changer in this regard.  Of course, I daily grow more frustrated with being forced to do system processing via console.

Can anybody speak to ouport limitations in M7 Stagemix?  Do the SM limitations apply also to stagemix or has Yamaha expanded in this regard.

True enough, I'd forgotten that. I do all my system processing outboard,
controlled by software on the same laptop, set via VNC.
The LS9 doesn't save the outport settings per scene,
which for me makes them pretty much useless.

Just being curious as to which VNC you guys are running on your ipads? I've got one just about to arrive so I've been weighing up my options recently!

It's looking like Screens seems to be slightly ahead of the others I've looked at, but I'm ready to be wowed!!

I just tested RealVNC on the iPad last night-Using AirFader so knobs are adjusted with sliders - no problems.

There's another thread in the forum with many specific servers and clients listed.
