I have a Sony HDR FX7 camera with HDMI out and a Kramer VP719xl switcher / scaler. The scaler has DVI VGA RGB S and Composite in. Output is VGA max resolution is UXGA 1600 x 1200.
This all goes to a pair of BenQ MX812ST projectors that also support UXGA 1600 x 1200.
The camera is 1080i or 1920x1080 resolution. The projector accepts up to 1600x1200 resolution, as wells as 1080i signals, but is 1024x768 native resolution. Unfortunately, it seems that Kramer no longer has information on the VP-719XL on their web site, so I don't know what resolutions it will accept or can output.
I purchased a cable that is HDMI to DVI 75' long. I have not received the cable yet. I would like to use this for the camera to the switcher. Will I get HD or at least UXGA 1600 x 1200? Or will this cable even work?
The cable may work, although that is a long cable for HDMI so I hope it is a good one, however that is not affecting the resolution. What is an issue is that while your projector may accept high resolution signals, it is still 1024x768 native resolution. This means that the projector internally converts any higher or lower resolution signals to fit its 1024x768 native resolution. Thus a 1920x1080 image from the camera would be displayed as 1024x576 image on the projector, which is not as high a resolution as the 1280x720 or 1920x1080 HD resolutions. And there is nothing that can be done with the cable or scaler to improve that, it is a limitation of the projector.
You would also likely get the best result by setting the VP-719XL output to match the 1024x768 native resolution of the projector. If you set the switcher/scaler output to 1600x1200 that results in the VP-719XL scaling the 1920x1080 1080i signal to 1600x900 and then the projector scaling that to 1024x576. It would usually be much better to handle that in one 1920x1080 to 1024x576 conversion in the switcher/scaler and have the projector not do any scaling.
