Im doing an install for a communiy theater that wants boxes that can do several duties.  A bigger box that can be used for FOH or monitors that is passive, and a smaller box that can be used as monitors or fills that is powered.  The closest I can come up with is the mackie c300 and srm 350.  I would prefer a box like the EV zx5 and zx1 but the EVs do not come in active boxes.  Budget is around the mackie price point.  What else should I look into?

The broadest performing range of similar powered/unpowered cabs I know of would be the RCF ART and ARTi series cabs. They offer options in 10", 12" and 15" two way cabs with 1" up to 2" exit horn drivers.

Other options would include the FBT Maxx series and some of the Yorkville NX series cabs such as the NX55P/NX35 and the NX600/NX750P.

I have always liked the sound of the 12" EV oferings in that kind of cabinet.  I would tend to go with the SXa linup from EV.  I have 8 SX100a and a few SX300 floting around where I work (school with a big drama and music program) and they are the work horse of the theater and any other place we need them.  Our main cluser is made of 3 SX300 speakers.  The SX300 and SXa100 work very well together when I have had to cluster them on stands.  In your case I would go SXa 100 for the small speakers, posibly for all speakers.  If you need more go with the SXa360.

Forgot to say I do not like the sound of the 15" EV in that linup.

I thought about the sx series because they are great workhorse speakers, but I hate the angle for monitors and the little tilt stands dont make them much better.  Still I will consider them.

I saw an SXa250 that looks like is solves that problem.

EV SxA250 & Sx250 are the same box, and have the proper angle for monitor duty.  

I'm pretty excited about seeing a powered ZX-5, but am not looking forward to seeing the price.  But if you budget will allow...

I am very interested in the ZXA5s but can't seem to find anything on the web about them! They aren't even featured on the EV website!

Does anyone know:
1) Their weight?
2) Their price?
3) Where to get them?
