Which amp for SRX 725
Brian Wilkinson:
I have 2 SRX 725's and 4 SRX 718's. The subs I am running 2 to a channel on a Crown Itech 8000. My question is I have 2 Crown XTi 6000 that I could run bridged on the mids of the 725's (they are biamped) or 1 Itech 8000. Which would best suit this setup? Would 2 XTi 6000's draw more than the 8000 in this case?
Thanks

Bridged Xti 6000 on mids? That sounds like overkill, and bridged mode has a 6dB increase in apparent sensitivity (from adding both channels together). The XTi already have a non-changeable 1.4v. input sensitivity for Full Tilt Boogie output, so bridged mode gives you 0.7v for full output. You'd need to adjust your sub ITech accordingly... You have big amps, WTF are you bridging?
If you don't absolutely need to biamp the 725s, I'd run them passive with the IT8000 and move the XTIs to monitors... but that's just me. Alternatively, I'd load up the 725 biamp presets into the XTI and use one for each 725.

Since the 725s don't have any mids driver I have to assume he means the double 15" lows. If he wants to bi-amp the 725s and use his subs, and he has 2 iTech8000s and 2 XTi6000 to chose from I would use 1 itech on subs, 1 on lows, and an XTi on highs. I am not a fan of bridged amps. If he only has 1 iTech, it goes on subs and use the biamp presets in the XTis, with 1 amp per speaker.

Thanks for details on the 725. I understand why he wants big power... With this level of inquiry, I wouldn't want to walk him through setting up the XTi on HF and Itech on LF as (if IIRC) they have different latencies. Doing this in front of the gear, with Smaart or Systune to align the HF/LF would be a fairly simple matter but coaching someone through it via forum posts... eh, not so much.
Have fun, good luck.

yeah Mac you nailed it. I should have went further with the details. I have the Itech 8000 on 4 SRX718's now. I have 2 XTi 6000's I bought new a while back to run the 725's and have the chance to buy another Itech 8000. I run the 725's biamped but didn't know which setup would be better on the mids (2 15's) of the 725's. So for the mids of the 725's 2 XTi 6000 or 1 Itech 8000
thanks, Brian
