What does MLK say at the end of the "Mountaintop" speech?
« on: March 08, 2007, 09:02:02 AM »

After Martin Luther King Jr delivers the last line in his "I've been to the mountaintop" speech, he whips around and says something else.  All audio clips I've heard cut his voice after he says "The coming of the Lord!"  Does anyone know what he said as he turned around and left the pulpit?  Watch the video.

Maybe he's reciting the second line of the song...

"He is trampling out the vintage..."

Very hard to tell.

Mac,

I figured that question would arise!

I'm just curious.  I caught an episode of "The Jeffersons" the other day, and it really moved me.  I always thought the show a bit silly, but this one was a flashback episode called "The First Store".  George and his family grapple with the issues of their day at the time of MLK's assassination.  The show ends with the last few words of the "I've been to the mountaintop speech".

Upon watching the speech I noticed Dr. King utter a few words as he turned to leave the pulpit.  I'd really love to know what he said, given that those would have been his very last public words.
