It's a lager. Hiene used to be a useful default when travelling around because it was widely available and fairly predictable, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the availability of Guinness (a proper stout-ale) around the world, especially in the former colonies.

My first thought exactly, but then I remembered back when I used to visit the "country" relatives on the farm when I was a kid.  The tool shed didn't always have power.  In fact, my "rich" uncle/cousin/whatever (hey...it's the deep south) was the only one who had power to the house as well as the barn, the stables, AND the workshop!  I'd like to think the Kiwi's are more advanced than my relatives in Tickfaw, LA, but ya never know.
