Mixing LEDs...
« on: December 10, 2006, 12:03:51 PM »

I'm looking to get 16 (RGB) LED pars, 4 trees in the corners, and need to know it, using an intelligent-fixture-capable lighting console, I will be able to obtain different colors from the different cans simultaneously.

IE:  Having a white wash from the front tree cans, while having colored, or changing colors from the back tree cans...  Pretty basic questions, but I haven't been able to get my answers by searching around.

I guess I'm asking if you can have different fixture addresses for the separate cans (or trees of cans)?

Any help greatly appreciated!

TIA

Sure you can. You don't even need an "intelligent fixture-capable" console to do it. You can have multiple fixtures on the same address (causing them to all react the same) if wanted. Or you can have different starting addresses for each fixture.

Milt -

Thanks for the quick help.  I'll start looking at my scene & chase needs, & shopping for a mixer!

Thanks again,

Another consideration is total number of DMX channels your board can address - and what you intend for the future.

Your 16 PAR cans can already use 64 DMX channels if all are addressed discreetly. (assuming 4 channels each).

You may find yourself adding a few movers in the future - those can eat up 6 to 15 or 16 channels each.

Leave yourself lot's of room to grow

It seems silly, but most LED fixtures use from 6-9 channels.

Many of them do, but the Wiedamark cans use 4 channels. Red/green/blue/master, done. Simple.

you should be able to if you have a way to assign different addresses to each fixture, but to be certain I would have to know what kind of led fixture you have and what type console you are using.

Josh -

I'm looking at an AMDJ DMX Operator 192 and some Weidamark LED Par 64s (16-24 total).  I'm looking for color changing, chases, dimming, scenes, etc., nothing complicated, just the kind of things you might do with regular pars and a non-dmx controller.

Thanks for your help!

Tim,

I've been playing around with the Weidamark cans for the past week or so along with the Operator 192.  They will not be hard to set up or control like you want.

I'm not a lighting guy, but if you have some other questions about them let me know and I'll try to answer them.
